Broadcasts live every Monday from 4pm-5pm[EST] on CJAM 91.5fm
Animal Airwaves is CJAM's award winning Animal Rights and information show.
The show was founded in 1998 and we are so excited over its success!
Your hosts, Terry and Gayle, discuss all issues affecting [human and non-human] animals today.
They read and discuss the headlines -locally and from around the world- and provide listeners the real-world truth, without the corporate/advertiser muzzle to silence or distort the facts!
Animal Airwaves often brings its audience vital news that truly matters weeks and even months ahead of the mainstream outlets [for example; the health hazards of PBA's].
2009 Jammie Winners!
Cogratulations Terry and Gayle!!
We would like to thank all of our listeners, everyone who, once again, voted our show the best spoken word program on cjam!

Dubious distinction of utter irrisponsibility:
There are est.25,000 stray cats roaming the streets of Windsor - this is the highest rate per capita in all of Canada.
In 2008 there were 4,638* cats WECHS had put to sleep.
While this total was mercifully below the original estimates of 6,000 this rate is still way too high and could be solved IF certain politicians were to act responsibly regarding this issue.
*Of those, 71 were requested by the owner because the animal was ill, 1032 were medical issues, 505 were wild, and 814 were behavioural.
There are some other medical issues that would be separate (eg FIV positive), but most would be covered under medical.
To combat this problem, you can Support the Humane Societys call for the Pet Responsibility Bylaw which calls for the licensing of cats and the mandatory spay-neutering of animals.
Proceeds from the program will go to towards the establishment of a low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

The feline overpopulation is one caused by certain citizens of Windsor, who just happen to be tax-payers -like the responsible pet guardians in our city.
Therefore it is not out of line to demand that city council finally bother to address this situation, or have tax payer dollars be used in a meaningful and humane way to solve the situation.
WECHS provides Windsor with an invaluable service with very little recogition or any compensation; euthanizing healthy animals causes these fine people genuine heartache -
they suffer while certain officials, and residents, turn a blind eye to this festering problem.
Lives are being lost daily.
ONTARIO
The Amended OSPCA Act [Bill 50] Is Now In Effect!
The Bill overhauls the 89-year-old Ontario SPCA Act to widen the definition of animal cruelty, improve the Society’s ability to address critical animal welfare issues,
and allow investigators to bring more abusers to justice.
Proposed changes will have the single greatest, positive impact for animals in the province since the Ontario SPCA Act was enacted in 1919.
Currently the Ontario SPCA lays more Criminal Code of Canada charges against animal abusers than any other provincial organization,
because the Society does not have adequate provincial legislation to effectively deal with animal abuse.
Passage of Bill 50 became more critical since amendments to the Criminal Code (Bill S-203) were approved by the House of Commons on April 9, 2008.
Although Bill S-203 made some near useless amendments to increase penalties for animal cruelty offences, it fails in a number of critical areas,
including closing loopholes in the Criminal Code that make it difficult for enforcement agencies and the courts to convict animal abusers.

INTERNATIONAL
The SeaShepherd Conservancy is currently (as this group does every year) risking their lives to impede Whalers who are bent on continuing to brazenly (and admittedly) flout International Whale Protection Laws.
Last year a failed assassination attempt was made on Paul Watson's life, which was foiled by the bulletproof vest he was wearing.
Also in 2008, they successfully managed to save the lives of 500 whales and brought massive global media coverage to the issue through (non-violent) direct action.
