About us

WHO IS WAAG?

Windsor’s Animal Action Group (WAAG), formerly known as ARK II Windsor, is a working group of the Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG). We serve the Windsor and Essex County area and our mission is to prevent cruelty to, and encourage consideration for, all animals, human and non-human. We are active in the following areas: animal experimentation, animal agriculture, animals in entertainment, and animals used for fashion.

Our work is made possible through generous donations and committed volunteers.

For more information on how you can make a tax-creditable donation or to get involved, please email us at: animalairwaves@hotmail.com

WHAT WE DO

WAAG's activities are centered around public outreach and education.

We feature information tables and displays at several social functions and events throughout the year including EarthDay, MeatoutDay and World Farm Animals Day(WFAD-Oct.2nd). We on occasion have displays at the Windsor Public Library's downtown branch.

Throughout the year our volunteers also participate in peaceful public protests/demonstrations to educate the public about animal cruelty issues (we annually protest the circus, the fur industry and the Canadian seal hunt).

In the past We have made classroom presentations at several educational institutions in the Windsor/Essex County area, such as: Belle River, Holy Names, Massey, Villanova, St. Clair College and the University of Windsor.

Furthermore, every Monday from 4pm-5pm our volunteers broadcast Windsor's only animal rights program "Animal Airwaves" on CJAM 91.5fm. This award winning program discusses all of the issues effecting animals in today’s modern world. You can also tune in via the web at: www.cjam.ca

DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF ANIMALS
Whereas it is self evident
That we share the Earth with other creatures, great and small
That these animals experience pleasure and pain
That these animals deserve our just treatment and
That these animals are unable to speak for themselves
We do declare that these animals
Have the right to live free from human exploitation, whether in the name of science or sport, exhibition or service, food or fashion
Have the right to live in harmony with their nature rather than according to human desires
Have the right to live on a healthy planet
-adapted from the proclamation by the 30,000 participants
of the March for the Animals
in Washington, D.C., June 10, 1990
